Slacker
I've been a big time slacker with the blog updates....call it what you want.....I contribute some of it to post-Ironman blues. Ahh yes, those post-IM blues....congratulations; you just completed one of the toughest endurance events on the plant- how what!? Yes, now what Emily?
Well, I obviously took some time off from physical activity (about a week), then Ty and I ran in a local 5k and I took 1 st on my age group (averaged 7 min some odd sec. per mile) The following weekend we ran in the annual Pinehurst Turkey Trot Half Marathon where I took 3rd in my age group (time was 1:41 which was a PR for me) Both these races encouraged us and we started thinking about running the Myrtle Beach Marathon. At this point though I think that is out of the question as Ty has developed some back issues, and I have developed some sciatic/hip/back issues myself (I am attributing this to poor body mechanics at work, since I sit on my butt way more than I am used to) I just took 10 days off from exercise since it got so bad and had a massage, but I think at this point it's unrealistic to think we can pull off a marathon in mid-Feb. We will reassess for March or April.
For now, we are enjoying some alone time since Will is up on the Cape. Still have some decorating around the house I want to do. We may tackle some painting this winter. Have been pouring a lot of energy into work. The program is VERY busy; we have set a record this year with about 90 lung transplants. I am on-call over Christmas so we'll see how that goes! Going to be a low key for the holiday- we will have my in-laws over the weekend after Christmas and celebrate on Sunday morning. We have absolutely NO snow down here, while my folks have about 1 foot! Ty and I still miss it a little, but only the beautiful sight of it- not all that the mess and hassle that comes along with it! I enjoyed a sunny 40 degree run this afternoon myself :)
