Oct 6th 9 pm

I am officially registered! Spent the entire morning down on Ali'i Drive. First stop- the infamous Lava Java. This is the place to see and be seen. Although I didn't see anyone worth seeing! I also thought the little place across the street was much cooler. It is called "On The Rocks." It has a way better view and more laid back atmosphere (they also open at 3 am on race day! Talk about service!) After about 45 minutes of standing in line, I finally got my official wristband slapped on me and all necessary race materials (bib #'s, timing chip, swim cap, etc). They also always weigh you during registration - always a sobering moment. Survey says: 114 lbs (that's with shoes on FYI ;) They weigh you in case you end up in the medical tent, which happened to me at my 1st IM and has not, and hopefully will not happen again! After registration Ty, my dad, and I dropped some cash on IM merchandise- always a sure thing that you will spend $$ at these events. They do give away a lot of free stuff, but of course you find things you just have to have. This afternoon Ty and I headed out to the Queen K with my bike. Ty ran while I got in an hour ride headed towards Hawi so I could get a feeling for the wind. Well I got a taste of it alright. Going toward Hawi (North) it was all crosswind and a slight headwind. Coming back it was all headwind AND crosswind. I was able to stay in an aero position which was good, but there were a few white knuckle moments. It's not all that fun when the gusts come across the lava fields and you feel yourself being blown sideways. After the ride, we hung out at the house for a bit and then headed back down to the King Kamehameha hotel (this is the official race hotel). All 7 of us went to our very first lua'u. It was pretty cool, kinda commercialized though, and very average food, but the entertainment was neat.
