A few words...
First of all the Sox are kicking some butt in Game 1 as we speak :)
Second of all I am now officially on Ironman time...no more CT ICU nursing until Nov. 7th :)
Third of all I just have to say how appalled I was at work today. I was precepting a new grad nurse and we were taking care of a very sick 83 yr. old woman who had open heart surgery on Monday. The patient is sedated, on the ventilator, on 10 IV drips, requiring blood, and also on a balloon pump (an actual balloon that goes into your femoral artery up into your aorta and blows up and down to help take the load off your heart and provide better blood flow to your coronary arteries) So the poor woman is obviously very sick and out of it, and there is a lot of machinary at the bedside. She is not in an enclosed room, but in an open bay area so all we have for walls are curtains. I was at the nurses station and I look up to see a visitor at the bedside. In the ICU visitors are forced to call in to visit, but sometimes they sneak in if the door is open. So I just assummed this was what was happening. So I politely go over to the bedside and ask this woman if she is related to the patient. She said "No honey, I'm just looking. I head about her in the waiting room." It was then that I realized that this woman was a visitor of another patient in the bay next to my patient. I was SO angry and then I came straight out and told her that she cannot do that. Well then she AND her sister (who was next door) decided to have attitude with me. So my friend explained to them that it is a violation of privacy. So then they went off on her and called us sassy. Basically they tried to make it look like we were in the wrong. Rrrrrriiiiggggghhhtttt. So I pulled the curtain and ignored them. I'm sure they wouldn't mind if they were the ones laying in that bed and had random people looking them over like they were some exhibit. Right?! People never cease to amaze me.
