Happy New Year! (Better late than never :)
So is this what happens when you create a blog? At first you update it all the time and then as the months pass by you update less and less? If so, c'est la vie I say! Where did I leave off? Oh yes, right before Christmas! We returned from our trip up North to a very busy Christmas week. It was the end of the quarter for Ty at EMC so he had to work right up until Christmas and then he had to work the day AND part of the weekend after. I had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas (day shift) so we were kind of like ships passing in the night. We did spend Christmas evening with our "2nd family" (Johnathon & Glorimar) We had dinner and dessert at their house along with his folks. He was recovering from having his Christmas present (a reversed vasectomy :) We ended up doing the Johnson family Christmas that weekend. I broke out our new fine china and we christened it with our Christmas dinner. That Saturday night we all went to the Hurricanes game (they played the Bruins and the Bruins won!) Tom & Joyce got a Shitzu puppy (Brady) and Annie and Brady love playing with each other. It is hysterical because Annie is probably about 75 pounds and Brady is about 6 pounds.
New Year's Eve was kind of low key. We went over to my friend Sarah's house for a bit. Got to play Rock Band with old friends from work- always a good time. We scooted out before midnight so we could come home, toast some champagne, watch the ball drop, and then head to bed. We woke up early so we could run in a New Year's Day Resolution Run. It was a 5k around NC State's campus. It was FREEZING! I managed to score 3rd place in my age group so we stuck around and collected my sad $10 gift certificate. We spent the rest of the day lunching with the 2nd fam, (we have a joke between the 4 of us that I am Johnathon's 2nd wife b/c we used to work together and have spent a lot of time together) He has been a true friend to me since I have moved down here. You know he's a close friend when I am blogging about his reversed vasectomy :)
Now here we are almost half way through January! So far the New Year has been pretty awesome. I don't want to sound cliche but marriage has brought forth a lot of personal growth. I may be a bit premature in saying this but I think "Change" is not only going to be Obama's slogan, but also mine. It's very exciting (and also a bit scary) when trying to dream and plan about the future. Much more to come when the time is right.
For now there is a lot of fun and some serious work on the agenda.
In chronological order: Trip to Cancun in mid February (sort of a 2nd honeymoon), I am presenting/speaking at UNC's annual Heart Center Conference in late February (this a state wide conference offered to all acute and critical care nurses of NC). In April my folks are coming for their annual visit, at the beginning of May we are going to Seattle & Vancouver (running the Vancouver marathon and visiting a friend in Seattle). August brings a Cape/Boston wedding and Ironman Louisville (only a week apart from each other!) Back to the Cape in September for another wedding. Sounds like a great year to me!
Other updates: the dog is still crazy (we have started back up with Pet Smart puppy class), it's freezing down here at the moment (Friday is a projected high of 29!), and I invented a new dinner tonight (sweet potato mashed w/silken tofu, shredded parm, a little butter, salt & pepper, mixed with tiny tender peas) So yummy & colorful!
