Pushing the envelope...
Where do I start? I haven't posted in a few weeks and so much has been going on in our personal lives. There is no big shocking news or change to report- nothing earth shattering- no I am not pregnant- no we are not moving- but we are pushing the envelope. Ty is exploring new job opportunities, we started training for the Kiawah marathon which is on Dec 6th, and I am riding high atop a horse named "improvement." Both Ty and I are types that do not believe in complacency- we are big "goal" people. If goals are reached; it's time to set new ones- reach further; go faster- in all facets of life.

Since we have returned from the magical planet called "the honeymoon" I have really been affected by work. I love work. I love being a nurse. We do amazing things at UNC. Since I have been back at work there have been a few changes- my closest friend Johnathon has left to go back to CRNA school, along with 2 other nurses. We have 4 new grad RN's that have started. One other nurse just got accepted to CRNA school. I have been transitioning into my new role as CN III (more of a leadership role, but still at the bedside). All this has really gotten me thinking- where am I headed next??? And to be honest I have been upset about trying to figure this all out. If you have followed my blog or if you just know me- you know I have talked about moving towards getting into the health/fitness world. This desire is still with me, but I have come to realization that I am extremely passionate about health care improvement, focusing on patient-family centered care. I believe that we should all be striving to improve in all facets of life. The short time I have spent in my role as a CN III has made me realize I can help to improve health care. My manager is an advocate of health care improvement and has really supported me in this realization. I am almost giddy about it. But it feels so good to tap into a passion and really go for it. I have been doing extensive literature review in health care improvement, focusing on patient-family centered care. It has been amazing to discover all the literature and evidence out there that supports patient-family centered care. It is truly inspiring. To some people it may sound "touchy-feely" or too Utopian- but just think about it- what it comes down to is- How would you want to be treated if you were the patient in the bed? How would you want to be treated if your loved one was the patient? It is such a basic principle it amazes me that this has not been the normal culture of health care. This is a long overdue culture change- it is time to improve and push the envelope.
